Kids Helping Kids at St.Francis School

December 19, 2012 -

When St. Francis School began its Edgar Burton Kids Helping Kids food drive in early December, no one was expecting the massive quantity of food that was collected. Mrs. Sharon Burton had approached school administration back in the fall with information about the campaign, as her grandson attends St. Francis. The school jumped in with both feet, creating a class challenge, offering the class bringing in the most items a pizza party, and providing a campaign t-shirt for each class to use as an individual student prize, as well. Mme. Marionís Grade 5/6 French Immersion class collected 404 cans, winning the class challenge and a pizza party in January. In addition to the class challenge, friends and families of students brought non-perishable food items to the Christmas Concert, held on December 18th. In all, the estimated total of non-perishable food items exceeds 2500, thanks to the generosity of the school community. Angie Robson, on behalf of the Edgar Burton campaign, commented "The Edgar Burton Food Drive and Kids Helping Kids Committee wish to extend a heartfelt thank you to the students and teachers at St. Francis School. Through their kindness and generosity, they have helped ensure this 25th anniversary campaign is one of the most successful ever. Edgar always believed that students could make a powerful difference in the community, and St. Francis School has certainly demonstrated this in spades."
