St. Francis Catholic School Presents “Wellness Day”

On May 1, 2007 from 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. the Grade 7 and 8 students at St. Francis Catholic School will be participating in a Wellness Day. Representatives from the Sudbury and District Health Unit as well as Life Zone will be presenting to the students on a wide range of topics from Healthy Eating and Nutrition, to Kickboxing classes.

St. Francis JK Open House to be Held February 13

St. Francis Catholic Elementary School is holding an Open House on Tuesday February 13, 2007 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. for parents of children registering in JK for September 2007. Families will see the school, meet the Kindergarten teachers, discuss school programs and register for Junior Kindergarten. See you there!

Mayor Courtemance to Speak to Students at St. Francis and St. Andrew Catholic Schools to Promote Career Day in Celebration of

St. Francis Catholic School will be celebrating Catholic Education Week by hosting a Career Day on Tuesday, May 2, 2006 from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at St. Francis Catholic School. Grade 8 students from St. Francis, St. James and St. David Catholic Schools will have the opportunity to hear keynote speaker Mayor David Courtemanche as well as several guest speakers from the Sudbury community talk about the various job opportunities and career paths that lead them to their present occupations.

Mayor Courtemanche will also be reading to the Grade 2/3 class at St. Andrew Catholic School on Wednesday, May 3, 2006 from 1:00 p.m. to 1:30 p.m.

St. Francis Catholic School Students Recognized by Consortium for Heroic Actions in Bus Accident

St. Francis Catholic School students Jeffrey Bradley, Jesse MacDonald and Brennan Smith received Awards of Merit at last night’s Board Meeting from Jo-Anne Harrison, Manager, CEO, Sudbury Student Services Consortium. The students were recognized by the Board’s Trustees, Senior Administration, teachers, family and their peers for their quick thinking and unselfish actions in coming to the aid of fellow a student and the bus driver during a bus accident this past December.

The bus had flipped over on its side during the accident making an exit from either the side or rear doors impossible. The students managed to extricate the bus driver (who remained suspended in her seat by her seatbelt) and exited the bus through the roof escape hatch in order to call 911 and Emergency Services.

St. Francis Catholic School Hosts SCDSB Boy’s and Girl’s Invitational Volleyball Tournaments

St. Francis Catholic School hosted the SCDSB Boy’s and Girl’s Invitational Volleyball Tournaments recently. A total of 12 teams participated in the boy’s tournament with 14 teams participating in the girl’s division.

The Sudbury Catholic District School Board would like to thank all of the coaches and volunteers who continue to give of their own time to attend practices and volleyball tournaments. Also, thank you to Mr. Jean Gallien who continues to do such an amazing job organizing and running our volleyball tournaments.

St. Francis Student Take Top Prizes in 2005 ‘Art for Heart’

Christel Pilon and Max Gainer, Grade 6 students at St. Francis Catholic School won first and second place in the Sudbury Catholic and Rainbow Districts’ 2005 Art For Heart Billboard contest recently. In recognition of her first place finish, Christel
received a brand-new bicycle, and a $500 cheque for her class. In
addition, her poster entitled, “Pump It Up,” will be made into a
billboard to be erected on the Kingsway.

Max Gainer also picked up a handsome prize for his poster, “Work It Real Good” claiming a bag of sports balls for his efforts, courtesy of Coca Cola Bottling. Cardiologist Dr. Ron Baigrie and Peter Williams, Honorary Chair of the Art For Heart contest presented the prizes to the winners at Tom Davies Square.

The Sudbury Catholic District School Board would like to
congratulate both Christel and Max on their superb results in this
year’s billboard contest. Approximately 400 Grade 6 students from both boards entered the annual contest which helps encourage a healthy
lifestyle for Heart Health.
