Today, St. Francis students and staff marked an exciting milestone—100 days of learning, growth, and fun!
Throughout the day, students engaged in a variety of creative and educational activities centered around the number 100. From counting exercises to hands-on projects, the celebrations highlighted the progress and accomplishments of our young learners.
This special day would not be possible without the dedication of our staff, the enthusiasm of our students, and the support of our families. Thank you for being part of this incredible journey!
Here’s to the next 100 days of learning, discovery, and success at St. Francis!
At St. Francis School, we had an exciting day dedicated to celebrating literacy! Thanks to the generous support of our School Council and funds raised from our recent book fair, every student at St. Francis received a new book to call their own.
The best part? Each student had the opportunity to select the book that piqued their interest, fostering a love of reading and giving them the chance to explore stories that truly inspire them.
We’re grateful for the continued support of our School Council and the community, which helps make days like today possible. This is just one of the many ways we’re committed to supporting the literacy development of our students and encouraging them to enjoy reading beyond the classroom.
Here’s to many more days filled with learning and discovery!
Last week, Mr. Snofl’s LSC students at St. Francis School took part in “Bell Let’s Talk Day,” a national initiative aimed at raising awareness and promoting mental health support. The students engaged in a variety of activities designed to foster understanding of strategies to maintain positive mental health.
One of the activities included listening to Eastern Meditation Music while colouring mandalas as a class. This calming and creative exercise allowed students to practice mindfulness, helping them connect with their emotions and promote mental well-being in a supportive environment.
Through these activities, the students not only gained valuable tools to support their mental health but also created a space to discuss the importance of self-care and emotional resilience. St. Francis School is proud to encourage and support the mental health of all students through such meaningful initiatives.
Our Grade 5/6 French Immersion students had an incredible day of discovery at the Willet Green Millett Center! Students delved into the mysteries of our solar system, gaining a deeper understanding of the planets and celestial bodies that surround us. They also explored the fascinating world of rocks and minerals, learning about their formation and unique characteristics.
A huge thank you to Laurentian University for partnering with us to make this educational experience possible. Your support helps bring hands-on learning to life for our students!
We look forward to more exciting learning opportunities like this in the future.

On the evening of January 4th, our St. Francis School Choir had the privilege of performing at the Sudbury Five game, and we couldn’t be more proud of our students for their performance.
A special thank you goes out to the families and dedicated teachers who took the time to attend and cheer on our talented students. Your presence made the evening truly memorable, and your encouragement helped our choir members shine even brighter on stage.
We are so fortunate to share these moments with all of you, and we look forward to many more beautiful performances in the future. Thank you once again for making this event such a success!
This holiday season, students in Mrs. Michelutti’s Grade 3 class at St. Francis School embraced the spirit of giving by sharing joy with the residents at St. Joe’s Continuing Care Center. The students worked together to create personalized, hand-painted cards, each filled with special messages of cheer.
The class also brought smiles to the residents’ faces by performing songs and dances, bringing the festive spirit to life in a truly memorable way. In a heartwarming exchange, the residents reciprocated with their own special creations, writing and crafting cards to express their gratitude.
This joyful interaction exemplifies the values of kindness, empathy, and community that are at the heart of St. Francis School. It was a wonderful reminder of the importance of connecting with others and spreading love during the holiday season.
If you have a child who attends St. Francis you may have heard them mention UFLI, morphemes, or CVC words? Wondering how these terms are connected to reading? We invited families to join us for a Parent Information Session to explore the exciting and innovative ways we are teaching reading at St. Francis School!
Our literacy session was a fantastic opportunity for families to connect with educators and learn more about our approach to reading instruction. It was a wonderful night filled with engaging discussions on literacy strategies, and we are grateful to the families who attended. A heartfelt thank you goes out to the dedicated staff from both the school and the board office who shared their expertise with our community.
Looking ahead, our next Parent Info Session will be in January, where we will shift our focus to math. We hope to see you there as we continue to empower families with the knowledge they need to support their child’s learning journey.
On September 30th, St. Francis School joined communities across Canada in recognizing Orange Shirt Day, a time for reflection, remembrance, and reconciliation. This day provides an opportunity to honor the children who were sent to residential schools and to acknowledge the profound impact this history has on Indigenous communities.
The day’s theme, Every Child Matters, serves as a reminder of the importance of fostering understanding, respect, and empathy in our community. Students, staff, and families wore orange shirts to show solidarity and commitment to creating a positive environment where every child is valued, supported, and treated with dignity.
At St. Francis, we are dedicated to learning about and respecting the cultural diversity of all individuals, and events like Orange Shirt Day allow us to continue our journey toward healing and reconciliation. We encourage our students and families to keep the conversation going, understanding that the lessons learned today will help build a better tomorrow for all.
Thank you to everyone who participated in this important day of reflection and unity.
May 28 to June 3, 2023, is National AccessAbility Week!
National AccessAbility Week (NAAW) is an annual initiative that celebrates, promotes, and showcases the diversity, inclusion, and accessibility in our country, and highlights some of the important initiatives aimed at creating an accessible Canada. Since 2019, Easter Seals Ontario has recognized the Wednesday of National AccessAbility week as the Red Shirt Day of Action for AccessAbility and Inclusion. Everyone is encouraged to wear a red shirt to raise awareness for accessibility and disability inclusion and make a pledge to help remove physical, attitudinal, and systematic barriers in their schools, workplaces, and communities.
Red Shirt Day is an Easter Seals initiative and was first celebrated in 2019. The 2023 Red Shirt Day takes place on Wednesday, May 31. Sudbury Catholic District School Board (SCDSB) students and staff are encouraged to wear red on Red Shirt Day to promote messages of support for people and families living with disabilities.
About Red Shirt Day
Red Shirt Day of Action for AccessAbility and Inclusion is a day when people across Canada come together and wear red in schools, workplaces and spaces everywhere in order to create a visible display of solidarity: to show their support for persons and families of those who are living with disabilities, celebrate the achievements of people living with disabilities, and to pledge their commitment to help create a fully accessible and inclusive society that honours and values the contributions of people of all abilities in all aspects of life in Canada.
